1/8-inch hardware cloth — galvanized steel mesh with eight squares to the inch (#8 mesh). It's the standard screening for beekeeping: fine enough to keep mice and small hive beetles out, open enough for ventilation and for Varroa mites to drop through a screened bottom board. Sold by the linear foot off a 36-inch-wide roll, or as a full 100-foot roll.

Features

  • 1/8 inch mesh — eight squares per inch (#8 hardware cloth)
  • Galvanized steel — rust-resistant
  • 36 inches wide
  • Sold by the linear foot, or as a full 100-foot roll
  • Also called hardware cloth, wire cloth, or wire mesh

How it works in real life

This is the mesh beekeepers reach for when building or repairing screened bottom boards and screened inner covers. The 1/8-inch opening is the beekeeping standard — small enough that mice and small hive beetles can't pass, while letting Varroa mites fall through to a tray below for monitoring and improving hive ventilation.

Cut it to size with tin snips and staple it into a wooden frame. Ordering by the foot, quantity 1 is a 12-inch length off the 36-inch-wide roll; order the number of feet you need, and if you order several they ship as one continuous piece rather than separate cut sections.

Before you order

  • Sold by the linear foot (qty 1 = 12 in long × 36 in wide) or as a 100-ft roll.
  • Multiple feet ship as one continuous, uncut piece.
  • Galvanized hardware cloth ships in its own box, which can affect combined shipping cost.
  • Cut with tin snips and wear gloves — cut mesh edges are sharp.

FAQ

Is this the same as hardware cloth?
Yes. 1/8 inch hardware cloth, wire cloth, and #8 wire mesh all refer to this same galvanized eight-squares-per-inch screen.

What is it used for in beekeeping?
Mainly screened bottom boards and screened inner covers — it keeps mice and small hive beetles out while allowing ventilation and Varroa mite monitoring.

How is it sold?
By the linear foot (each foot is 12 in long by 36 in wide) or as a full 100-foot roll.

Will it rust?
It's galvanized, so it resists rust well in normal use. Keep it dry between seasons for the longest life.
