Smoker Grate / Smoker Tray
The smoker grate is the small perforated disc that sits in the bottom of a bee smoker and holds the burning fuel up off the floor of the canister. That gap lets air from the bellows reach under the fuel so it keeps smoldering instead of choking out. It is an easy part to lose — they often get dumped out with the ash — so a spare is handy to have.
What it does
- Holds smoldering fuel above the bellows air intake
- Keeps air moving under the fuel so the smoker stays lit
- Drops into the bottom of the canister; lifts out for cleaning
- Fits most standard bee smokers
Why it matters
Without the grate, fuel packs down onto the bottom of the smoker and smothers the airflow, so the smoker goes out mid-inspection. The grate keeps a pocket of air beneath the coals, so a few puffs on the bellows bring the smoke right back.
Pairs well with
- Bee Smoker Fuel — cool, long-burning smoker fuel
- Replacement Smoker Bellows
