Wooden Beehive Inner Cover
The wooden inner cover sits between your top box and the telescoping outer lid. It creates an insulating air gap, gives the bees a notched top entrance and vent, and keeps them from gluing the outer lid down with propolis. The center hole accepts a bee escape or a feeder jar. Fits standard Langstroth hives in 5, 8, or 10 frame.
Features
- Solid wood cover with a center oval hole
- Notched rim for a top entrance and extra ventilation
- Insulating air gap between the top box and the outer lid
- Center hole fits a bee escape or feeder jar
- Fits standard Langstroth equipment in 5, 8, or 10 frame
How it works in real life
Rest the inner cover on the top box — notch up for a top entrance and ventilation, or notch down to close it — then set the telescoping outer cover on top. The air gap insulates the hive in heat and cold, while the center hole lets you slip in a bee escape to clear supers or invert a jar feeder. Because the bees propolize the inner cover instead of the outer lid, your telescoping cover lifts off cleanly at the next inspection.
Before you order
Choose the size that matches your hive body — 5, 8, or 10 frame. The inner cover goes under a telescoping outer cover, which is sold separately. For maximum summer airflow or ventilated wintering, see the screened inner cover below.

FAQ
Notch up or notch down?
Notch up gives the bees a small top entrance and extra ventilation; notch down closes it. Many keepers run notch-up in summer and adjust with the season.
What is the center hole for?
It accepts a bee escape for clearing bees out of honey supers, or an inverted jar feeder.
Do I still need an outer cover?
Yes. The inner cover works under a telescoping outer cover, which sheds rain and blocks light.
Which size do I order?
Match it to your hive body — 5, 8, or 10 frame.
