An electric uncapping knife with adjustable thermostat — 5 heat settings let you tune the blade temperature to your honey type, your wax thickness, and your personal pace. Heated knives flow through wax instead of dragging through it; the right tool for production-volume harvesting where every frame multiplies the time savings.

Features

  • Electric heated blade with thermostat control
  • 5 adjustable heat settings — match the temperature to your wax and honey
  • Smooth polished blade — slices cappings cleanly with no honey sticking
  • Built-in cord and standard plug — no batteries
  • Designed to run for full uncapping sessions without overheating

How it works in real life

Plug in the knife. Dial the thermostat to a temperature setting that matches your wax condition (start in the middle range for typical fresh cappings; increase for thicker or cooler cappings; decrease if the blade starts smoking or browning the wax). Let it heat for a minute or two, then start uncapping. The heated blade glides through wax in single smooth strokes — and the warm surface means honey doesn't stick to the blade like it would with a cold knife. The time difference over a large harvest is significant: dozens of frames per hour instead of dozens per afternoon.

Before you order

Electric heated knives are the right answer when you're uncapping volume — dozens of frames in a single session, multiple supers per harvest, retail or wholesale production. For hobby and small-batch use (a few frames at a time), a manual knife (smooth or serrated) is plenty and far cheaper. Used carelessly, an electric knife can burn wax or scorch the surface of the comb; always start with a middle temperature setting and adjust based on what you see and smell.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is an electric knife worth it over a manual one?

When you're uncapping more than 10-15 frames per session. The time savings stack quickly. For occasional hobby use, a manual knife is plenty. For retail-scale production, electric pays for itself in saved labor within one or two harvests.

What temperature should I set it to?

Start in the middle of the range for typical fresh cappings. If the blade is too cold, wax drags. If it's too hot, you'll smell burning wax — back off the setting. Most beekeepers find a working sweet spot after a few minutes of trial and error during their first session.

Will the blade burn the wax?

Only if the temperature is set too high. Brown discoloration on the wax cappings is a sign you're too hot — turn it down. At the right temperature, the wax stays bright and clean, just sliced thinner than a cold knife would manage.

Can I leave it plugged in between strokes?

Yes — that's how it's designed to be used. The thermostat maintains the set temperature without overheating. Just unplug it when you're done for the session.

Is it safe?

Use the same safety habits you'd use with any heated kitchen tool. Don't touch the blade when hot. Don't leave it on a flammable surface while heated. Keep cords away from spills. Unplug when not in use.
