A dependable, no-nonsense smoker that puts out cool, steady smoke when you need it — without the price tag of a pro-grade tool. The Budget Stainless Steel Beekeeping Smoker is built for new beekeepers, backyard hives, and anyone who wants a reliable workhorse for routine inspections.

Features

  • Stainless steel firebox resists rust and cleans up easily
  • Wire heat shield wraps the body to reduce accidental burns
  • Hanging hook lets you park it on a hive stand between supers
  • Full-size bellows deliver steady puffs without fatigue
  • Hinged top opens wide for easy refills mid-inspection
  • Two sizes — Standard (4×7") and Large (4×9") — to match your apiary

How it works

Pack the firebox with smoker fuel — pine straw, burlap, cotton circles, or compressed pellets all work. Light from the bottom, give it a few bellows pumps until the smoke turns cool and white, then close the lid. Two or three gentle puffs at the hive entrance and a couple over the inner cover before opening is usually enough to settle the colony.

Before you order

  • These smokers are imported from overseas. Minor cosmetic details may vary slightly from photos, but the build and performance are consistent.
  • Both sizes work for any apiary — Large just holds more fuel and burns longer between refills, which matters on full yard days.
  • Always pack fuel for a slow smolder, not a flame. Open flames scorch bees and burn fingers.
  • Set the smoker on a non-flammable surface when not in use — the firebox stays hot for a while after you finish.

FAQ

Is this smoker good for beginners?

Yes. It's one of the easiest smokers to learn on — simple bellows action, generous fuel chamber, and forgiving when you're still figuring out how much fuel to pack.

Standard or Large?

Standard is right for short inspection sessions or smaller apiaries. Large holds more fuel and goes longer between refills — better if you're working through a full yard day without stopping to relight.

How long does the fuel burn?

With properly packed fuel, expect 20–45 minutes per pack depending on size, fuel type, and how often you pump the bellows.

Why does my smoker keep going out?

Usually one of three things: fuel packed too loose (no embers), fuel packed too tight (no air), or the air intake at the bottom is blocked. A clean grate and a moderately packed load fixes most of it.

Can I use other fuels?

Yes — pine straw, burlap, untreated wood shavings, cotton, and dried plant material all work. Avoid anything chemically treated or painted.
