How it works in real life

Place the escape board between the honey super you want to clear and the brood boxes below, cone side oriented so bees travel down and out. Over the evening and overnight, bees follow the colony's pull down through the cones into the deep trough and out into the lower boxes; the cone shape makes returning to the super difficult. By the next day the super is nearly empty and ready to pull — no smoke, no repellent, no brushing. Because it's a full one-piece board (not a small insert), it covers the whole footprint and clears the super evenly.
