Cutt's Beetle Blaster Type Hive Beetle Trap
The Cutt's Beetle Blaster type trap is a disposable hive beetle trap that uses the bees' own behavior to catch small hive beetles. You fill the channels with trap oil and slide it between the top bars; bees chase the beetles, the beetles drop into the oil, and you pull the full trap and throw it away. No assembly, nothing to clean.
Features
- Disposable — fill, place, remove, replace
- Hangs between the top-bar frames
- Holds trap oil to capture and drown small hive beetles
- Inexpensive enough to run several per hive
How it works in real life
The design comes from Laurence Cutts, a longtime Florida beekeeper, for managing Aethina tumida — the small hive beetle. Fill the trap about halfway with hive beetle trap oil and set it between the frames where you see beetles running. The bees harass the beetles toward the narrow channels, the beetles fall into the oil, and they can't climb back out. When it fills up, lift it out and dispose of it — then drop in a fresh one.

FAQ
What do I put in the trap?
Hive beetle trap oil — fill the channels about halfway.
Is it reusable?
No. When it fills with beetles you dispose of it and place a fresh trap.
Where does it go in the hive?
It hangs between the top-bar frames where beetles travel.
How many do I need?
As many as cover where beetles gather; they are cheap enough to run several per hive.
