Acorn Green Drone Comb – Deep & Medium
Green drone comb gives beekeepers a simple, chemical-free way to keep varroa mites in check. Queens prefer to lay drone eggs in its larger cells, so the frame concentrates drone brood in one place that you can lift out and freeze to break the mite breeding cycle.
Features
- One-piece frame and foundation molded from food-grade plastic
- Heavy beeswax coating, ready to draw with no assembly
- Larger drone-sized cells that draw drone brood
- Bright green color makes the frame easy to spot in the hive
- Reinforced end bars resist bowing and warping
- Available in deep and medium depths
How it works (in real life)
Place a drone comb frame in the brood nest. The queen fills the larger cells with drone eggs, so drone brood concentrates on that one green frame instead of scattering through worker comb. Varroa mites prefer drone brood, so once the frame is capped you pull it and freeze it for a day or two to kill the mites inside, then return it for the bees to clean and refill. Repeating this through the season removes mites with each cycle and no chemicals.
Before you order
This is a mite-management frame, not a honey or worker-brood frame. It works best when you track the capping cycle and pull the frame before the drones emerge, otherwise you risk raising mites instead of removing them. Choose the depth that matches your boxes.

FAQ
How does drone comb control varroa mites?
Varroa mites prefer to breed in drone brood. By concentrating drone brood on one frame and freezing it once it is capped, you remove the mites developing inside before they can spread.
Does it need assembly or foundation?
No. The frame and foundation are molded as a single piece with a beeswax coating, so it goes straight into the hive.
Why is it green?
The bright green color makes the drone comb frame easy to find during a hive inspection.
What depths are available?
Deep (9⅛") and medium (6¼"), in several pack sizes.
