Unassembled 10-frame Langstroth hive boxes in select-grade yellow pine — the building blocks of a hive. Run deeps for the brood nest, mediums for brood or honey, and shallows for lighter honey supers. They ship flat to keep shipping affordable; you glue, nail, and paint them to finish.

Features

  • Fits standard 10-frame Langstroth equipment
  • Select-grade yellow pine — a cost-effective grade that may include tight knots and minor cracks but still performs
  • Box-joint corners for a strong, square assembly with plenty of glue surface
  • Recessed handholds on the ends for a secure grip when lifting
  • Choose deep, medium, or shallow depth
  • Ships unassembled and flat

How it works in real life

Pick the depth for the job: deep boxes for the brood chamber, mediums for brood or honey (lighter to lift than a full deep), and shallows for the lightest honey supers. Glue the box joints, nail or staple the corners square, then prime and paint the outside to protect the wood — leave the interior bare, since the bees coat it with propolis themselves.

A well-glued box joint lasts many seasons of stacking, lifting, and weather, which is why box-jointed pine remains the standard for Langstroth equipment.

FAQ

Which depth should I choose?
Deeps for the brood chamber, mediums for brood or honey supers, shallows for the lightest honey supers. Many beekeepers standardize on mediums so every box is interchangeable.

What wood is it?
Select-grade yellow pine — strong and workable, with tight knots and minor cracks allowed at this grade.

Does it come assembled?
It ships unassembled. Assembly is available for $3.00 per box, but assembled boxes can only ship on bulk orders.

What are box joints?
Interlocking finger joints at the corners — they add glue surface and hold the box square and strong once assembled.

Are frames included?
No. Frames and foundation are sold separately.
