How it works
Drop a smoker grate in the bottom (sold separately — strongly recommended on any smoker), then pack the firebox with your fuel of choice. Pine straw, burlap scraps, knitted cotton circles, or compressed herbal pellets all work. Light from the bottom, pump the bellows until the smoke turns cool and white, then close the lid. Two or three gentle puffs at the entrance and one over the inner cover before opening usually settles the colony for a calm inspection.
