A fume board clears bees out of a honey super in minutes, with no brushing and no lifting frame by frame. This universal board fits both 8-frame and 10-frame Langstroth equipment. The black aluminum top soaks up sunlight to warm an absorbent fabric liner, which carries a bee-repellent down through the super and drives the bees out the bottom — leaving the honey frames ready to pull.

How it works in real life
Apply a few lines of a non-toxic bee repellent to the fabric liner, lift the outer cover off the hive, and set the fume board on top of the super you want to clear. In sun, the black top heats the liner and the repellent vaporizes downward; within about seven minutes the bees move down out of that box, and you lift off a nearly bee-free super. On a strong harvest day, running two boards leapfrog-style keeps you moving from hive to hive without waiting.
Warm, sunny conditions make it work fast; on cool or overcast days the board is slower, so plan harvest for the warm part of the day.
