5 5/8 Medium Thin Surplus Foundation
Thin surplus foundation is the thinnest beeswax foundation we carry, made for comb honey. The slim, unwired sheet lets bees draw delicate, edible comb that cuts cleanly for cut-comb and chunk honey, and it works in the Ross Round and Ceracell round-comb systems or in standard frames with a comb cutter. Each sheet is 100% pure beeswax sized for 5 5/8" medium frames.

How it works in real life
Comb honey is simply honey left in the wax the bees built, so the foundation has to be thin enough to eat. Set a sheet in each comb-honey frame, give the bees a strong nectar flow, and they'll draw and cap clean white comb you can cut into squares or rounds. Because the sheet is unwired, there's nothing to pick out before you package it.
Before you order
Use a wedged top bar and a grooved bottom bar for the best hold, and add support pins if your frames need them. This is thin medium foundation for 6 5/8" boxes — for drawn-out brood and extracting frames, use our wired crimp wire beeswax foundation instead. One shipping note: we don't recommend shipping wax when temperatures are below 32°F, since cold wax turns brittle. If you order during a hard freeze, you accept the risk of cold-weather breakage in transit.
