A wooden swarm trap sized like the cavity scout bees look for, built to hang outside through a full season and come back out year after year. The integrated cleat on the back lets you mount it on a tree, post, or wall and lift it down again once a swarm moves in.

Features

  • Solid white pine body, the same wood used in standard Langstroth hive bodies
  • Unfinished interior with no sealants or off-gassing
  • Interior volume of roughly two standard nuc boxes
  • Adjustable entrance disc to set ventilation, reduce the opening, or close it for transport
  • Metal-clad lid that sheds rain and resists UV
  • Integrated rear cleat for hanging and removal

How it works (in real life)

Hang the trap with a matching cleat or a strong hook on a tree trunk, fence post, or shed wall, ideally 8 to 15 feet up with the entrance facing south or southeast. Scout bees inspect the cavity, and a trap dimensioned to the volume they prefer gives them a reason to commit. When a swarm takes up residence, close the entrance disc once the bees have settled for the evening, lift the trap off the cleat, and move it to your apiary. Open the entrance again once the trap is on its new stand.

Before you order

A trap pulls in more scouts with a lure inside. You can pair it with Swarm Commander Premium Swarm Lure Spray for quick applications, the Swarm Commander Gel for traps you do not want to re-bait often, or the Swarm Commander Super Lure hanger as a single drop-in dose. If you want other options, the Swarm Trooper Flat-Pack Swarm Trap stores flat between seasons and the Wood Pulp Swarm Trap is a lighter, lower-cost trap.

FAQ

What is the trap made from?
Solid white pine, the same wood used in standard Langstroth hive bodies. The lid is clad in metal for weather protection.

What size cavity does this trap mimic?
Roughly the interior volume of two standard nuc boxes.

How do I hang it?
The rear cleat pairs with a matching cleat or a strong hook on a tree, post, or structure. Hang it 8 to 15 feet up if you can, with the entrance facing south or southeast.

Can I transport a captured swarm in the trap?
Yes. Close the adjustable entrance disc once the swarm has settled for the evening, lift the trap off its cleat, and move it to your apiary. Open the entrance once the trap is on its new stand.

Is it reusable?
Yes. The white pine body and metal-clad lid are built to go back out season after season. Refresh the bait each spring.
