Queen Marking Cage - Crown Of Thorns
The crown-of-thorns queen marking cage is a round cage ringed with fine prongs that you press down over the queen where she stands on the comb. The prongs sink into the wax and trap her under the cage without anyone having to pick her up — then you mark her thorax through the open top while she is held still.
How it works
Spot the queen on the frame, set the cage over her, and press the ring of prongs gently into the comb so she is contained underneath. Touch a dot of marking paint to the top of her thorax through the opening, let it set for a moment, then lift the cage and let her walk off. Because you never lift her off the comb, there is little chance of injuring her.

Do I have to pick up the queen?
No. You press the cage down over her on the comb, so you mark her in place and never lift her off the frame.
Will the prongs hurt the queen?
The prongs press into the wax around her to contain her, not into the queen. Because she is never picked up, there is little chance of injuring her.
