The Varroa Mite Test & Treatment Kit is a complete varroa mite test kit and treatment set in one box: everything you need to check your colony's mite load and, when it's above threshold, knock it down with an oxalic acid vaporizer. It's a straightforward way for new and experienced beekeepers to test first and treat only when needed.

What's in the kit

  • NoVarroa oxalic acid vaporizer with cables and a solid metal acid tray
  • 12-volt 5 Ah battery to power the vaporizer in the field
  • Recharge adapter for the 12-volt battery
  • Double-jar mite wash with testing instructions
  • 16 oz of 91% isopropyl alcohol for the wash
  • 12 oz of oxalic acid (wood bleach) with a measuring spoon

How it works

  1. Test: use the double-jar mite wash with the included alcohol to measure your mite count and decide whether treatment is needed.
  2. Treat: if your count is above threshold, load the measured oxalic acid into the NoVarroa vaporizer, power it from the 12-volt battery, and vaporize the hive.
  3. Recharge: top the battery back up with the included adapter between yards.

Before you order

This kit both tests and treats. Always wear appropriate protective gear when vaporizing, and follow the rates, timing, and safety directions on the oxalic acid label. Test before you treat - and treat only if the mite count calls for it.

FAQ

Do I need anything else to get started? No - the kit includes the tester, the vaporizer, a battery and charger, and the oxalic acid and alcohol. Just add protective gear.

How often should I test? Many beekeepers test monthly during the active season, and always before and after a treatment to confirm it worked.

When should I treat? Treat when an alcohol wash shows roughly 3 mites per 100 bees (3%) or higher; thresholds vary by season and region.
