How it works

1. Remove your inner cover and set the trap on the top bars, beneath the outer cover.
2. Leave a slight gap so the bees treat the openings as something to seal, packing the grooves with propolis.
3. When full, place the trap in a plastic bag and freeze overnight.
4. Twist or rap the frozen trap inside the bag — the brittle propolis cracks loose for collection.

FAQ

How is this different from a pollen trap? A propolis trap collects propolis (the resin bees use to seal the hive) from the top of the colony; a pollen trap collects pollen at the entrance. They harvest two different hive products.

How do I get the propolis out? Freeze the trap in a bag overnight, then flex or twist it — propolis turns brittle when cold and cracks free.

Will using it harm the colony? No — collecting propolis is non-invasive, and the bees continually produce more.
