Acorn Plastic Foundation
Acorn plastic foundation gives bees a strong, ready-to-draw comb base that won't bow, warp, or blow out in the extractor. Each one-piece sheet is precision-molded with a natural honeycomb cell pattern and finished with a heavy wax coating, so bees accept it quickly and build straight, even comb. Made in the USA, this Acorn plastic foundation is a durable, low-maintenance alternative to wax sheets for both brood and honey frames.
Features
- One-piece, super-rigid sheet — resists bowing and warping for flat, stable comb.
- Precision-molded cell pattern — mimics natural honeycomb so bees draw it out readily.
- Heavy wax coating — a generous coat of beeswax encourages faster acceptance and comb building.
- Breakaway communication hole — pop it out to let bees move between frames, or leave it intact.
- Made in the USA — manufactured in California.
- Two sizes, two colors — Deep (9-1/8") and Medium (6-1/4"), in white or black.
How it works
The foundation snaps into a standard grooved wooden Langstroth frame and gives bees a centered guide to build on. The heavy wax coat is the part bees respond to — it smells and feels like comb they would build themselves, so they draw it out faster than bare plastic. Once drawn, the rigid plastic core stands up to repeated extraction without the blowouts you can get with wired wax.
Before you order
- Pick your size: Deep (9-1/8") for brood boxes; Medium (6-1/4") for honey supers.
- Pick your color: White is the classic look and shows off honey and comb; black makes pale eggs and young larvae much easier to spot during inspections.
- Pick your pack: a single sheet, a 10-pack, or a 100-count case for whole yards.
- Compatibility: fits standard grooved (groove top bar / groove bottom bar) wooden Langstroth frames. This listing is foundation only and does not include frames.
Pairs Well With
- Acorn Plastic Frames — prefer an all-in-one? The same precision comb pattern molded as a one-piece frame, with no wooden frame or assembly needed.
- Alliance Unassembled Beehive Frames — the grooved (groove top bar / groove bottom bar) deep and medium wooden frames this foundation snaps into.
- 10 Frame Beehive Woodenware — the unassembled hive body that houses a full set of frames.
- Metal Foundation Support Pins — lock the foundation into the frame so it cannot slide.
- Wooden Handle Frame Grip — lift drawn frames cleanly during inspections.
- Stainless Steel J-Hook Hive Tool — pry and lift frames without crushing bees.

FAQ
Deep or medium — which do I need? Use deep (9-1/8") foundation in brood boxes and medium (6-1/4") in honey supers, matching the depth of your woodenware.
Why choose black over white? Black foundation makes it far easier to see eggs and young larvae against the dark background during brood inspections. White is the traditional choice and shows comb and honey nicely.
Do I need to wax it myself? No. It comes with a heavy wax coating already applied. Some beekeepers add a light extra coat of melted beeswax to speed acceptance even more, but it is not required.
Will it fit my frames? It fits standard grooved Langstroth wooden frames (groove top and bottom bar). It is sold as foundation only, so pair it with the wooden frames linked above.
What is the communication hole? It is a small breakaway section you can pop out to let bees pass between frames. Leave it in place if you would rather keep frames separated.
