Split Bottom Bar
The split bottom bar is the two-piece bottom rail of a wooden Langstroth frame. Its two halves close around the base of a sheet of wax foundation and hold it in place, which makes it the bottom bar of choice for crimp-wire and wax foundation frames.
Features
- Two-piece (split) bottom bar for standard wooden frames
- Grips wax foundation between the halves, no separate fasteners needed
- Sold individually, for building new frames or replacing a damaged bottom bar
- Fits standard Langstroth wedge-top-bar frames in deep, medium, and shallow
How it works (in real life)
When you assemble a frame, slide the edge of a wax foundation sheet between the two halves of the split bottom bar, then close and nail the halves to the end bars. The two pieces pinch the foundation in place so you do not need separate clips or fasteners. To repair an existing frame, remove the cracked or warped bottom bar and fit the split bottom bar in its place.
Before you order
This is a single bottom bar, sold individually. To build a complete frame you will also need a wedge top bar, two end bars, and foundation.
