This 10 frame expanding apiary kit gives an established 10-frame colony a second story to grow into: a complete deep brood box and medium honey super in assembled woodenware, ready to paint and stack on your hive. It's the straightforward way to add room when your bees have filled their first box and need space for more brood and honey.

How the 10-frame bee hive expansion kit works on your hive
The screened bottom board forms the base of the hive and supports the brood chamber and honey super above it, while its screen adds ventilation through the hot months. The reversible entrance reducer lets you shrink the hive opening to guard against robbing in winter and during nectar dearths. The deep brood chamber is where the queen lays, built from heavy-duty yellow pine with no knots or defects, and the medium honey super above it gives the bees room to store honey for winter. The deep and medium frames are select grade and carry Acorn's triple-waxed plastic foundation, which bees draw out and accept readily. The insulated inner cover keeps the bees from gluing the lid down with propolis, and the heavy-duty telescoping lid caps the hive and protects it from the weather.
Before you order
This kit ships fully assembled — paint the exterior, then stack it on your hive. It fits standard 10-frame Langstroth equipment. The kit is woodenware only and does not include bees; if you're starting a new colony rather than expanding an existing one, we offer 5-frame nucs with a laying queen in season.
