How it works

Assemble the wooden rim with basic tools, set it on top of your 10-frame Langstroth hive box, and drop the two plastic tubs into it side by side. The rim does two jobs: it holds both tubs securely, and it lifts them above the hive box just enough that bees can enter the center chimney area (the gap between the tubs) as well as the four corner channels. Pour up to 2.25 gallons of 1:1 syrup across both tubs. Bees climb up through the access points, drink, and return — without falling in. For dry feeding, pull the center chimney cap and let them range across the full surface; for dry white sugar, add a damp sponge to give them moisture.

Why two tubs instead of one? Ceracell's design uses two side-by-side tubs with the wooden rim holding them in position. The gap between the tubs becomes the center feeding chimney.

Can I feed dry sugar? Yes — pull the center chimney cap and let bees access the full surface. For dry white sugar, add a damp sponge.

Built well, but drowns bees

I thought this feeder would be a good alternative to my bucket feeder, but I was wrong. In all 4 corners and middle I found drowned bees (I have all the clear pieces installed correctly). It wasn't a lot of dead bees, maybe around 10 or so in each spot, but when you keep finding more dead ones every few days, the numbers add up. After a few feedings and drowned bee removal, I had enough, and removed the top feeder and put my old bucket feeder back on. I will never use it again. I complained to the manufacturer directly through their website, but received no reply.

Easier top feeding to replace outside feeder. Highly recommend!

I purchased two of these earlier this year. After what seems like way too much time researching top feeders I heard about these. I thought they made the most sense from the various ones I considered. Since using them going on one month now and a couple gallons of syrup I have to say they work great! I have not had one drowned bee. I see them using both the center chimney and all four corners. My hives are pretty level so that might help.

Only onto my first week of feeding but it fits my boxes great and seems to be working perfectly. I have not lost a bee to drowning at all!

Unique design

Just received this feeder and have yet been able to use it. It is however well build. The plastic is fairly heavy. The design is unique and I would expect it to work very well. This must be a newer version then those I have seen on YouTube because the center dome holes are already open. I look forward to the install for this winter.

Good product, needs better packaging.

I received my feeder and the box seemed in fairly good shape. The feeder was packed with brown craft paper. When I got the feeder out it was evident it took a big hit and the frame of the feeder is cracked on the top. It is above the liquid level and I can repair it, but should have more cushioning in future shipments.

1. Wooden ware for NUC hives is not standardized. The top cover did not fit the feeder.
2. Bees will propolize the space below the central feeding area of the 10 frame Ceracell.

Not sure!

My first experience with the feeder was not pleasant because I lost a considerable number of bees to drowning. However, I think the blame should possibly be directed at me because I placed and inner cover on top of the feeder and I think the bees managed to enter the feeder from the top. Gonna try one more time before I cast judgment.

Top hive feeder

At first bees did not notice the feeder. After a week, some ventured up into it and drowned. Can't recommend this type of feeder.

When this happens the customer is typically using an inner cover with a notch in the end. This notch allows bees to enter into the feeder. There is no need to use an inner cover with this unit.

Ceracell Top Feeder is fantastic and quite versatile in my opinion.

As a new Beekeeper, I don’t have a lot of experience with different types of feeders. So far, I’ve used the Bordman entrance feeder and now the 10 frame Ceracell Top Feeder and Love it!!! It came ready to use - I did paint the outside to match my hive bodies. The bees are using every corner and the center feeding section and I’ve filled it up twice so far. Easy to use and I really like it so far. One more thing !! I am so glad that I ordered from Blythewood Bee Company!! I have called back a couple of times to ask questions about the top feeder and a couple of other items I purchased and the were so pleasant to do business with!! Answered every question and said to call back if I had other questions! Hard to find customer service like that these days..... I will order from them again!!! They are the BEST!! Thank You!!

Greatest top feeder ever!

I have used some knockoff brand top feeders and lost handfuls of bees to drowning. With the Ceracell I have not lost a bee to drowning!!! Easy to use, refill, clean, and remove. I will be using these on all my hives moving forward! Thank you Blythewood!

10 Frame feeder

Feeder frame is about 1/2 inch smaller than my brood box ! So it fits up a bit awkwardly! Then the second feeder ordered was for my brother’s flow hive and it was 1/4 inch too large for it! My first hive and maybe this is normal!
